So ECO, the next best thing would be writing on a leaf. Eco-icons! I was so excited about the sustainability of our new paper, that I had to celebrate each feature with its own illustration. :) Introducing our new ECO-Paper.
- 100% Recycled Fiber: ALL Paper and Envelopes - Paper and Envelopes Made in NY - Paper Made Carbon Neutral - Paper Made Using Wind Energy - Paper is FSC Certified - Processed Without Harmful Chlorine I am always on the lookout for more responsible paper options while staying committed to aesthetics. Our original signature eco-paper is a lovely white, with a fantastic texture but I thought it was time to add just a little bit more color with FIBER! The new paper is subtle in a light, neutral, oatmeal tone. Some of the natural fibers come from plant industry waste, and you can see little flecks in the paper. It was hard to find the perfect color, not too yellow, and not to grey; and the new color is supportive of ALL our amazing artists work. Email me: fern@foxfern.com if you want to TOUCH it for yourself. Or, watch our blog for updates on our new show room coming in MARCH! We have been working hard on big changes for FoxFern! From new eco-paper, new artists, and new spaces; our hearts are aflutter with excitement (anxiety?).
We have kept our Mission Statement in the forefront of all decisions, and while it was difficult not to cut corners, we held true to our convictions. FoxFern is built on beautiful things; art is made to share, hand crafted is made to last, nature is not ours to exploit and respect all living things, especially each other. We could not compromise on any one of those core values. Knowing this, we have come to a new chapter in our growth; a FoxFern & Co. show room and working studio. This new location will be open daily to the public, Monday thru Saturday and Sundays by appointment. Feel free to say hello, see what canvas I am working on, ogle my latest jewelry (its OK if you stare) or pick up a card (or 10). There will also be a Gallery space showcasing my paintings and area artists and makers. While this will be limited at first, I hope to support other creatives by featuring their work and introducing you to them. Please watch for updates in the near future with photos, and details about the journey. Crazy Artsy Love, <3 Fern (and Team) Read the Story Here: www.warwickadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20171124/NEWS01/171129988 WARWICK — Jennifern Hippely is one of more than 30 local makers who will be at the Made Local Holiday Market in Warwick on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, encouraging the community to buy local.
Hippely, a jewelry designer and fine artist, has been actively involved with Wickham Works in building a support network for area makers. She has designed the logo for a new venture promoting makers and retail outlets that sell locally produced items during the holidays and beyond. The month-long Made Local initiative will kick off with a launch party at Wickham Works’ Holiday Market on Friday, Nov. 24, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Wickham Woodlands Manor. The free event will showcase clothing, body care products, jewelry, blown glass ornaments, metal arts, leather and turned wooden goods, ceramics, holiday decorations and fresh wreaths, art made from reclaimed materials, and more. Shoppers will be able to enjoy seasonal brews from Pennings Farm Cidery, eat wood-fired pizza topped with locally grown ingredients from Emily’s Hearth, and listen to musician Mary Hood play songs from her new album. Throughout the holiday shopping season, stores and other retail outlets in the area that carry locally made products are encouraged to display the Love Local poster and decal. Anyone wishing to be added to the list of makers or retailers can go to wickhamworks.org. The August event marked a new addition of local food vendors, which was a much appreciated contribution of unique and delicious treats. Events like this don't just happen, it takes a lot of heart, time and work. Every time I set up my FoxFern Studios booth at the Goshen Art Walk, I love this event even more. The community is wonderful, and the way people show up to support art as much as each other is inspiring; this is the kind of place you want to call home. Friends from all over Warwick, NY stopped by and members of Milkweeds in Sugar Loaf, NY also showed their support and contributed to the celebration. Goshen Art Walk has become an event spanning several communities and embracing the Hudson Valley regional arts culture. FoxFern Studios' Jennifer "Fern" Hippely with her son at Goshen Art League Art Walk - Goshen, NY on August 4th, 2017.
Anyone can tell, I am an animal person, in every sense of the word. Growing up, my cats were my best friends as well as family. One day, I met a baby ferret and my heart immediately grew, I took him home and named him Tobi, then rescued two more; Natasha and Trixi. Tobi only lived for 6 years but he has made me smile for a lifetime.
This custom necklace started out as a few heartfelt thoughts; her likes, their family and the adventures they enjoy. Together we worked up three different designs, which I illustrated and sent to him to review. This is the design he chose: Sea turtles are her favorite animal, and she has a February birthday, so he requested an amethyst stone. I used the stone as the moon, rising over the ocean with palm trees swaying in the breeze. The family, with all thier love and dreams, are carried on the back of her favorite animal; sea turtle. The couple sit fireside, in beach chairs, and watch thier curious little boy explore his world. Their son is now 16, but in a parents eyes, our children will always be our babies. I also included the birth flower for February; violet. Wishing your family safe journeys and eternal love. Happy Anniversary. Turtle Folk Lore:
Sea Turtles represent good luck, endurance, perseverance and a long life. Turtles are excellent navigators and will have no trouble find their way home Legends say a green sea turtle lead the first Polynesian peoples to the islands. According to https://www.olukai.com; "In modern times, sea turtles are protected by the Endangered Species act and there are severe penalties just for giving them stink eye." Native American stories say that a great Sea Turtle dedicated it's shell to the land dwelling animals and North America rests on his back. Well, I can promise that I won't be giving you the stink eye, Great Honu, because the spiritual penalties far outweigh my concern for the laws of man. ABOVE: Setting up for the first Goshen Art Walk of the 2017 season. Here I am, Jennifern Hippely, with my "seriously passionate about art and jewelry" face, as I talk about how I individually make each FoxFern jewelry piece. Above photos courtesy of Jim Sebastian of the Times Herald-Record. You can view more pictures of my "serious face" and more of the amazing art and artists that attended the event in TheRecordOnline.com Gallery: www.recordonline.com/photogallery/TH/20170602/PHOTOGALLERY/602009994/PH/1 Doing shows is tough, the set-up process is always stressful and the elements (wind) sometimes try to obliterate your displays, but the rewards are so much greater. Even if I don't have a great sales day, meeting new people is a delight and sharing my work with them is an honor. Thank you to every single visitor who took the time to come out; you encouraged each one of us to continue doing beautiful things for the love of art and literature. A special Thank You to all the members of the Goshen Art League, they put a lot of unpaid time, effort and love into this event. (HUG) I love this photo from Goshen Art League member and photographer Julissie Saltzberg:
