Our first "In Honor of" reason for working, is Humane Society of Middletown, NY
When I lost my dog Dervish, even with a supporting family and beautiful son, I felt lost. His sudden departure left me unhinged, like my heart was flapping in the breeze, to be pulled away at any moment and sink to the bottom of a deep sea. He was my guardian back when I was completely alone in a new town and terrifying world. He was the kind of dog you could lean on, and wouldn't budge. Dervish had a large, gentle, presence that once it was gone, I had no idea what to do with the empty space; the echoes of our routine just rang into nothingness. I hand't accepted his death and was still hoping I could bring him back, when I had to deal with the subject of cremation. Most places I called were rushed, and had heard the story of heartache a million times. But then... I called Middletown Humane, and to my relief "Brian" sweetly put a bandaid on my hurt with his compassionate demeanor. I arrived to drop Dervish off for cremation at the last minute, when I realized I forgot the clay to do his paw prints. I was frantic. Brian suggested that a local vet had affordable paw-print kits and he would wait for us to go get one. I looked at Dervish's dainty, dappled, paws peeking out from under a blanket of dignity, as two kind ladies took him honorably, away. (Dervish was about 90 lbs, but his paws were so delicate and he was very good at keeping them MANicured himself.) Everyone at Middletown Humane Society was kind, courteous and genuinely cared about their furry wards, as well as the human ones who needed guidance. I met some of thier dogs, pitt bulls to tiny terriers and they were all happy; thankful to be protected and cared for. Our "IN HONOR OF" this month is Middeltown Humane Society. CREMATION PRICING NOTE: Middletown, NY Humane was very fair in its pricing for cremation ( 1/2 the cost of other places I called for Dervish to be cremated alone.) I also had my cat cremated in 2008 at the Humane Society in Brick, NJ; they were also inspiring with kindness, accommodating, affordable and went beyond the call of duty.
