The humble carrier pigeon (Rock Dove) has a noble history that is often overlooked, dating back to 776 BCE when gladiators and soldiers would send a much anticipated message home to their villages. Like modern carriers, they delivered mail with commitment to route and precise delivery. They also looked forward to a well deserved snack and drink when they returned home, just like their human counterparts.
